In other sci-fi news: I've decided that the only way I'll read Invincible is if the library gets it or I win it in a contest. I know some of you are trying to stay spoiler-free, so I won't go into details. I'm sure if there's any J/J goodies, someone on the f-list will post about it. (I'm looking at you
In the non-sci-fi part of my life, I spent last weekend at a baby shower for my friend and then went on to see
My sister comes home on Sunday for the summer, which is muy exciting. I miss her mucho.
Tomorrow I'm subbing for the English teacher I had for half of my time in high school. It's funny yet scary at the same time; the man is not one with whom you would want to mess around.
Anyway, it's just one of those nights where you're waiting for it to be a decent and non-embarrassing hour to call your bedtime.

-sending off one job application and getting started on two others
-downloading the new version of Office for Mac for free from IU (and by free, I mean by paying thousands of dollars in tuition); it's got all the cool new features with it, too... now if only I knew how to use them all
-talking to a member of a family I've known all my life but haven't seen in a long time

What five good things happened to you today?

Second, yesterday was the last day of my student teaching. It feels really weird to be finished with school for the rest of the year in mid-March, but I'll take it. Overall, it was an excellent experience. I definitely got the chance to work on my weakest area--classroom management--and improved in that regard. I will miss most of the students, but there are a handful I'm glad I won't have to see today. And I'm kind of glad that I won't be around on Friday when report cards are passed out. Those days are absolutely crazy.
But I did things I was worried I couldn't do: be there for my students when they needed me, control a classroom with 30 students in it, handle a wide range of creatures, not including the students (ball pythons, corn snakes, leopard geckos, African river frogs, tarantula, giant African millipedes, mice, rats, goldfish, a rabbit, and the latest addition to the class--a ferret). I got a better understanding of another teacher's comment of "Education at its root is political".
So now all I have to do is scan all my final project stuff, send it to Bloomington, get trained to be a sub, and look for a job, and I'll be set up with my own classroom next August.
Kind of scary.

But congrats to Miss Indiana for making runner up. Sorry she couldn't be the first girl from my state to win and that she had to stay in the "Always a Bridesmaid..." group. Even bigger bummer was that she lost to Michigan. Can you tell I graduated from Ohio State?
As for homework, I have to turn in my midterm project Monday morning while getting stuff ready for the next week. Ugh. Last weekend's three-day weekend totally spoiled me. But at least I have to get it done this weekend and not in the next few. I'm going to see Z a week from now, having a sleep over here the weekend after that while Dad is gone on his golf trip, and then possible back down to Z's at least for a day that following weekend to see Lola.
I really wanted to write for fun today and tomorrow. Instead I'm doing journal entries, critiques of myself (which are always so much fun), and writing a unit plan. Boo.

Just got back from seeing Atonement with Stephanie.
I wish I had some other exciting things to talk about (probably do, but am just too tired to remember them at the moment), but alas I don't. Oh, wait...
Who else watches Project Runway? I will admit that Christian got on my nerves at the beginning, but this week? How great was Team Fierce? I love Chris (especially his laugh), and he and Christian were quite the dynamic duo. And their dress was freaking amazing.

Other than that, not much else to say. Kate goes back to school on Friday which will be a bummer because she's fun to have around. Hope all my Hoosiers are having a good first week of classes.

- Christmas gathering with my Mom's side of the family
- Moved half of my stuff back home
Sunday:
- Cleaned my room and found seventy dollars
- Used newly found money to buy my first cashmere sweater at Old Navy for $40
Monday:
- Went to Bloomington to pick up the rest of my stuff and see my cousin and her boyfriend
- Held babies
- Attended my favorite church service of the year
- Had the traditional Pseudo-Family Christmas Eve gathering
- Found out that after 20 years, one of my pseudo-moms doesn't always remember how to correctly spell my name
- Got a Star Wars daily calendar with lots of pretty pictures that are begging to be made into icons
- Opened presents
- Saw National Treasure: Book of Secrets which was entertaining
- Drove to Ohio to hang out with my former roommate
- Drove forty miles in ninety minutes (Cincy rush hour sucks) to hang out with
mustafear for a couple of days - Played Star Wars Lego for the Prequel trilogy, which is incredibly inferior for Lego Star Wars II
- Went to the Gap clearance out and purchased five dress shirts and two sweaters for a nickel (thanks to my cousin and grandparents for giving me gift cards that covered the remaining fifty-five dollars)
- Had a mini-photoshoot with the boys, their Christmas tree, and their lightsabers
- Ran around town some more
- Was grateful for not having to drive
- Got beat at Monopoly by a seven-year-old
- Watched the BSG mini-series and "33" (sidenote: is it time for season 4 to start yet? or at least buy season 3 on DVD?)
- Drove home with taking my first overnight trip to Z's without it being official (those who have been there know what this means)
- Attended a pseudo-brother's wedding
- Watched The Prestige, which was an interesting movie that I almost had fully figured out (which is good for me)
- Saw the top 20 of AFI's most recent Top 100 films
- Slept in
- Unpacked all but Bertha (my stinking huge suitcase)
- Tried to go to B-Dubs (Buffalo Wild Wings) to watch the IU game on the stupid Big Ten Network with my Dad, but a lot of other people had the same idea
- Instead got wings from another place and flipped between the Giants' valiant effort to take down the Pats and the first National Treasure movie
- Finally updated the blog
- Started freaking out about student teaching, which starts a week from tomorrow
- Had dinner at Stir Crazy, which was okay, but the company (one of my Stephanies) was a big boost
- Found out after living here for 20 years that the mall closes at 6pm on Sundays
- Browsed in Barnes and Noble for over an hour without spending any money
- Saw Charlie Wilson's War which, like the other Mike Nichols' movie I saw, left me feeling like I wasn't quite intelligent enough to watch his movies (the acting was great, I just don't get really excited with the vibe of his movies)

And the slightly dorky reason that has added to my sudden good mood: "The Voyager Conspiracy" is now on. This is such a good Voyager episode. Star Trek + conspiracy theories = one fun hour of tv.

And, by the way, I really want to see Charlie Wilson's War now that I know Aaron (yes, we're on a first name basis) wrote it (and got a Golden Globe nom for it).
Also, this was posted on givememyremote.com and not only is it just fantastic for many reasons (boys singing pretty a capella, holiday music, etc.), it's just another way to show that IU is better than Purdue. :P Enjoy!

First, to follow up from my last post, my relatives all have power. Most of them got it a day or two after I made that last post. So yay for that.
But speaking of winter weather, we've had our first dose. I was supposed to attend my work's Christmas/my going away party last night, but that was canceled. And our shift for today was canceled, so I hurried home yesterday afternoon to hang out till tomorrow with my dad and my sister, who got home last night from school. We got enough snow to cover the ground yesterday morning and then some ice and more snow early this morning. They canceled all but the latest service at church, and some schools (including the one I'm going to be doing student teaching at next semester) already have two-hour delays up on the news crawl.
I, personally, could do without snow. It's pretty to look out and all that, but I hate walking around in snow and ice. Probably comes from having to do it for four winters at Ohio State. My sister loves it. Guess that's what happens when you head south to go to college.
I finished all my stuff for this semester of school on Thursday and have my last day of work this upcoming Friday. :) My mom's side of the family is getting together to do Christmas this coming Saturday. And a few days later will be my favorite holiday of the year--Christmas Eve. I'll explain that one later.
Meanwhile, some things I need to do over break include but are not limited to: visiting
mustafear (hopefully when
lola64 's in town as well--look out Kentucky!) and Emily, do a bit more tweaking on the resume since my self-appointed head-hunter has already found three high schools just in the area she lives in that need life sciences teachers next August, get a head start on Nawra's diary entries, work on the fic
amphetamine_47 gave me permission to do (and talk with her about how to make it fit after Fury), update
iconic_lydia with all the icons I've made from various contests, and make icons from the last episode of The Office and Razor.
Hope you all are having a good December. And that all you fellow college students survived finals week.

Last night I got my term paper back from my history paper and got a 98% on it. I know feel less guilty for missing going to Oklahoma for Thanksgiving. I would have gotten 100% if I had included some transcripts from the trial, but I'm pretty happy with myself.
I'm now officially done with four of my five classes. Just have to write four lesson plans and tweak one and get it finished by the end of next week. To celebrate all of this (as well as getting ready to e-mail in my two weeks notice to work), two videos. First, my new favorite song: Sara Bareilles - Love Song. Second, the new trailer for the next Chronicles of Narnia movie, Prince Caspian.
And, in case you care, my winter-break-for-fun to do list:
- catch up on drabbles
- knit
- make icons from BSG: Razor and The Deposition from The Office
- possibly take icon requests if people have them
- start plotting out the return of Nawra for the diary challenge
- go Christmas shopping once I get gift requests from certain peple (*cough*Kate Ellen*cough*)
- draw

-Bought Fury and might scrap some homework tonight to read it simply because Aaron Allston is my writing hero.
-Kendra in the middle of updating me about stuff at work: "You look really pretty today." Me: "I didn't shower this morning so I'm compensating with a ton of makeup."
-Bought a Geek Squad flash drive since I've lost my old one. I named it Nerd Herder to be fair to Chuck, Leroy, Ana, and Lester.
-Wrote a three page paper and once I turn that in and go to a meeting tomorrow, I'll have one class finished.
-Finished off my portfolio (which is probably over 30 pages thick) for my literary class.
-Currently at least 3/5 pages away from finishing my term paper for history.
-Knew I needed a break from being a grad student by all the stuff I turned into rainbow colorings tonight at work (including shift forms and excel spreadsheets that were highlighted in beautiful colors). Granted, Jessica would tell you this is not out of the norm, but I try and hold back while out in public so people don't laugh at me. Like Kendra did.
-Helped open doors for a woman with 3 beautiful kids under the age of 5 or so. The one in the stroller gave me a huge grin, and of course I returned it. They were so cute.
