In other sci-fi news: I've decided that the only way I'll read Invincible is if the library gets it or I win it in a contest. I know some of you are trying to stay spoiler-free, so I won't go into details. I'm sure if there's any J/J goodies, someone on the f-list will post about it. (I'm looking at you
In the non-sci-fi part of my life, I spent last weekend at a baby shower for my friend and then went on to see
My sister comes home on Sunday for the summer, which is muy exciting. I miss her mucho.
Tomorrow I'm subbing for the English teacher I had for half of my time in high school. It's funny yet scary at the same time; the man is not one with whom you would want to mess around.
Anyway, it's just one of those nights where you're waiting for it to be a decent and non-embarrassing hour to call your bedtime.

- My review for tonight's BSG
- I subbed five full days this week in five different schools; thus, I'm a little sleepy and feel like my week went by very quickly and is now mush in my memory
- I leave tomorrow to spend a couple days in the greater Cincy area for a baby shower and spending time with my friend and her boys
- My sister has finals next week and I hope she doesn't get too stressed about things
- Last night's Office was just meh in my opinion, but then again I don't like Michael trying to do stand up nor do I enjoy Stanley
- Is it sad that I consider setting the alarm for 7:30 tomorrow morning sleeping in? I think it is.

Second reason--The Office. Seriously, I heart Jim and Pam. But if a guy did a stunt like Jim does in the second clip to me, I'm honestly not sure whether I would find it hysterical or want to break his jaw. Maybe both.
A little background--Pam just set her landlady up on a date with her boss, Michael, which of course went horribly.
And sidenote--I really loved (and felt bad for) Kevin. Poor thing. But the chair bit in the beginning (especially with Pam and Creed) was great.
And reason number three why last night was awesome: I experienced my first earthquake. This, too, should qualify for today, but since it woke me up while I was asleep, I'll still count it for yesterday. It made me want to get up when it happened at 5:36 this morning and turn on Google Earth on my computer. But I didn't.
And now time to watch live streaming of tonight's Battlestar Galactica.

Subbed for the best class yes (at an elementary level) today. Second graders are definitely now my favorite age to work with. They were so well-behaved it was shocking. Definitely made it an easy day for me and my first experience of being in a classroom with the same 20 little ones for the whole day.
Bad:
Buying gas two weeks in a row and knowing I'll have to buy it again next week. It's currently sitting at $3.45 a gallon around here. So not cool.
Ugly:
A friend of mine decided earlier this week that the only way he could turn things around in his life was to end it. Words cannot express how much I want to bring him back if only to beat some sense into him. I wish he knew how much easier it would have been for all of us to hear that he needed some help with money and grades instead of having to hear about this.

I sent off my first application for a real job over the weekend. That scary fact hasn't settled in yet. Just looked for some more openings. There's one high school biology position up around here, as well as two middle school science positions (one on the north side and one in the Greater Cincy area). So we'll see how that goes.
Easter was good, hope yours was too. Got to see my cousin's engagement ring, which is gorgeous. We continued our new tradition where the guest list is a mix of family members (mostly from my mom's side of the family) and church staff members. We used the youth ministry center to hold the shindig. Nothing like celebrating the resurrection of Jesus with a little March Madness on the big screen used to put up song lyrics for worship and borrowing the youth ministry's Play Station for some Guitar Hero action.
I watched a disc of Firefly episodes today, and my crush for Adam Baldwin increased all the more. The last episode I watched was the one with Jayne the Hero--hilarious. It's not the greatest show I've ever seen, but it is witty and does succeed in meshing the Old West with futuristic space stuff, so kudos on that.
Well, my hiccups have finally ceased. I guess I should try and get some sleep.

I've got four more weeks of student teaching, and only three of them will be teaching. So once we get finished talking about the creepy crawlies of the animal world, I'll be done. The experience has had its ups and downs; as my supervising teacher has said, it's definitely been trial by fire. But that will get me ready for whatever job I end up at come August.
Well, it's time to go play with the boys some more. Hope you have a great weekend.

The past weekend was great despite getting sick, which was only a matter of time since student teaching. Went down to visit
Jessica introduced me to everyone at church on Sunday in the following manner: "This is my friend, Sara. We want her to move down here, so keep your ear to the ground about a high school biology teaching position opening up." I don't know why, but I'm always surprised that people would want me to be around them that much. It's humbling, flattering, and exciting all at once.
On the student teaching front, we added two large rats to the petting zoo that lives in my classroom. They're so gross, but thankfully they're being kept in the backroom at the moment.
I had my midterm review today and got all 3s and 4s (4 is the highest), so that was nice. At the end of the week, I'll be halfway done with things. It's going by fast, but I'm started to get excited and not completely nervous about going out and finding a job and finally and officially getting to be an adult.
Ugh to NBC and the weather. This is the second week in a row that Biggest Loser has been interrupted due to weather coverage. And they keep cutting into to cover Super Tuesday, too. I just want to see who lost the most weight; is that too much to ask?
I've been doing a lot of reading so far this year thanks to my new library card. The three books I've finished were Star Trek books. Two being related to Section 31 and the third being Imzadi. The Section 31 books were ok. The DS9 was enjoyable because it had Ro and I could mentally throw in a little Admiral Cain in there, too. There was a lot of talk about Bashir and his genetic enhancements, which were somewhat interesting. The other Section 31 book involved Voyager and Seven of Nine. Again, it was just okay. Imzadi was pretty good. I read the last half in one evening without staying up really late, so that was fun. Although I'm pretty sure Picard doesn't call Riker "Number One" as much as they put it into the book. I swear they made him say it at least five times per page and it just made me want to chuck the book against a wall.
I've now started Allegiance. As long as I can ignore Mara's horrible hair on the back cover (it's entirely too uniform being blown in the wind), I'll be fine. Hopefully.
I got kicked out of
That's all from me. Hope everything is going well for you.

The bad news: I forgot how hard it is to make BSG icons. With The Office icons mostly this season, I was able to use the same selective coloring (sorry for getting technical all you Photoshop naive people) on everything. Just had to prune the screencaps for which ones I wanted to use, crop, screen, a little sharpen, then copy and paste the same selective coloring layer onto everything. Once all the pruning was done, I could crank out 40 icons in like 20 minutes, no problem. And it satisfied my new need for batches of icons from the same episode or photo shoot to feel like a collection (I blame this on Project Runway) and be all nice and cohesive. So, back to my problem. BSG makes things difficult for icon makers. First, the caps aren't the best, but I can't make screencaps mostly on my own so I can't really can't complain too much about that. But, the lighting is incredible dark. The coloring is washed out. Or the lighting in the background is bright blue or orange and the faces in the foreground are dark and washed out. So frustrating. I've tried all the tutorials I've added to my memories, and nothing works for any of the icons, let alone all of them. It's just making me want to pull my hair out and/or say screw it with the pretty colors and make them all black and white. Granted the Razor caps were put into six sections, so one out of six without colors wouldn't be bad right? But there are just some (with Gina and some with the Adama men and Roslin) that just need colors.
Granted, this is a pretty insignificant post, but a post nonetheless. Really I shouldn't be worrying or focusing on it at all because I had hoped to move all of my stuff back home tonight after the Christmas gathering with my Mom's side of the family, but looking at my still lived-in looking room and the empty suitcases (I did pack up three large Rubbermaid tubs on Thursday), it's doubtful.
So anyway, there's my random rant for the day. If you know any special secrets to help me with my icon troubles or are aware of any icon tutorials that could help, please oh please send them my way.

First, to follow up from my last post, my relatives all have power. Most of them got it a day or two after I made that last post. So yay for that.
But speaking of winter weather, we've had our first dose. I was supposed to attend my work's Christmas/my going away party last night, but that was canceled. And our shift for today was canceled, so I hurried home yesterday afternoon to hang out till tomorrow with my dad and my sister, who got home last night from school. We got enough snow to cover the ground yesterday morning and then some ice and more snow early this morning. They canceled all but the latest service at church, and some schools (including the one I'm going to be doing student teaching at next semester) already have two-hour delays up on the news crawl.
I, personally, could do without snow. It's pretty to look out and all that, but I hate walking around in snow and ice. Probably comes from having to do it for four winters at Ohio State. My sister loves it. Guess that's what happens when you head south to go to college.
I finished all my stuff for this semester of school on Thursday and have my last day of work this upcoming Friday. :) My mom's side of the family is getting together to do Christmas this coming Saturday. And a few days later will be my favorite holiday of the year--Christmas Eve. I'll explain that one later.
Meanwhile, some things I need to do over break include but are not limited to: visiting
mustafear (hopefully when
lola64 's in town as well--look out Kentucky!) and Emily, do a bit more tweaking on the resume since my self-appointed head-hunter has already found three high schools just in the area she lives in that need life sciences teachers next August, get a head start on Nawra's diary entries, work on the fic
amphetamine_47 gave me permission to do (and talk with her about how to make it fit after Fury), update
iconic_lydia with all the icons I've made from various contests, and make icons from the last episode of The Office and Razor.
Hope you all are having a good December. And that all you fellow college students survived finals week.
